10 Ways to Help in 2010
We are often asked by people how they can help. The truth is you don’t have to live in Honduras to help. There are many ways you can assist in the life giving and life changing work happening right now in Honduras. When you choose to take part by doing one or more of these things you become a co-laborer with us.
To help answer the question, “What can I do” we have put together this list of 10 Ways to Help in 2012. Of course there are more than 10 ways so if you have an idea, please let us know.
- Monthly Giving – Everything costs something and ministry is no different. The number one way you can help Manos Extendidas is through monthly giving. The amount is not important. Give only what God lays on your heart, whether it is $5 or $100. Monthly gifts to the most good for sustaining the ministry because we know what we can count on and budget for.
- Pray – We need your prayers every day for protection, endurance, patience, and wisdom.
- Become a fan on Facebook – By becoming a fan you publicly state your support for the ministry in Honduras. Your support helps raise awareness. But don’t stop there.
- Share our status updates – When we make a post, upload a video or pictures, share them on your Facebook wall. By sharing on your Facebook wall you help us reach people we would never have the opportunity to reach.
- Sign up for our email newsletter – We send out periodic email newsletters to keep our friends informed of what is going on in the ministry. Staying informed helps you know how to pray and how you can help. Again, don’t stop there, forward the newsletter to your friends and family. You are our evangelists.
- Organize a walk or fun-run – Or some other kind of fundraiser. A great way to help is to organize an event that gets a community involved in raising funds to meet a need. You could help build a house or build a new girls home.
- Adopt a cause and join the club – The ministry falls into three primary categories: Community Outreach, Government Centers, and Children’s Homes. We are forming clubs of people who choose to adopt a particular part of the ministry. Joining the club means we communicate directly with you about specific news and needs in your part of the ministry. It helps you connect in deeper and more meaningful ways to the work in Honduras.
- Talk to your church – Share your heart and passion for the people of Honduras with your pastor and missions director. Head up the cause for Honduras within your church and your sphere of influence. We travel to the states at least once a year and can even come visit your church to help spread the word.
- Plan a child sponsorship drive – Every year we have at least 50 new children that need sponsorship (actually the number is usually much higher). These are kids attending our feeding programs who have enormous need. Last year only 5 of them received sponsors. You can help by organizing a child sponsorship drive in your church and community. We can provide you with the resources you need.
- Volunteer – There are many opportunities to volunteer. Lead a local Extended Hands club, visit Honduras with a short term mission team or come and volunteer long term, help with sending out newsletters, help with the administration of the child sponsorship program. You don’t have to be in Honduras to volunteer. Let us know what you are interested in doing and we will find a way to get you involved.
There you have it, 10 Ways You Can Help in 2012. Our hope is that you will pick one or two of these items to do this year. By doing so you become of part of a special group of people who are connected by our desire to help others in their greatest time of need. May God bless all of your efforts this year!
