We were incredibly blessed in 2011 by the faithful support of our many ministry partners. Through your contributions and giving of your time some of our greatest needs in the ministry were met this last year. We can’t express our gratitude enough. Thank You!
1. New Van – Reliable transportation is vital to this ministry and Honduras is rough on vehicles. Recently we have had an ending string of vehicles breaking down costing precious time, money, and anxiety. A new van to meet our needs will cost $25,000. This is a large sum and more than we can afford but we trust God will provide through faithful men and women who believe in the work of Manos Extendidas. A dear friend of the ministry in South Carolina raised half of the funds through his church while another dear friend of the ministry in Washington state raised the rest and we now have a reliable van for all the many needs of the ministry.
2. Church Nursery and Sunday School – Typical church attendance at the main church in the city is around 120 people. Of those, 35-40 are children 9 years old and younger. We struggle to meet the needs of children in the church. We have received generous donations for the nursery but desperately need something for the older children. We believe $1,000-$1,500 would provide the supplies we need for our Sunday School. Many people donated and we were able to outfit the new Sunday school room and the nursery. A team from a university in Washington state helped pain the rooms and murals on the walls.
3. Church rooms remodel – Our church used to double as a trade school. We provided sewing classes and a beauty school. Those classes have moved out to the rooms in the feeding centers to be closer to the students. The current layout leaves a lot of wasted space and difficult to use space for our nursery and Sunday School. Moving a couple walls and putting up a couple more would transform this space into something usable and efficient. We need skilled construction workers and around $2,000 to remodel this area. Thank you to our team from Michigan who gave of their time, talents, and resources to meet this need in the church. We now have 2 wonderful new rooms which will soon be ready to serve the children of the church!
4. Feeding center #1 was built in 2000. For a wood structure it has lasted quite well in the harsh Honduran sun and torrential rains. However, this last year was particularly wet and the rains caused a large amount of damage. Most of the wood is rotting and needs to be replaced. We would like to replace this with cement block to give this facility another 20+ years of life. We could used skilled labor to remove the old structure and build the new one. We estimate this cost to be around $2,500. A team from Washington State raised the funds and came with a crew to rebuild this center. The new center is beautiful and will last for years and years.
